Data forms
A number of data forms have been developed to facilitate data collection in the field. By using them, you will reduce the risk of forgetting to note certain important details. There are five different data forms: (1) the Breeding Evidence Form; (2) the Rare/Colonial Species Form; (3) the Point Count Form; (4) the Casual Observation Card; and (5) the Nest Record Card. Chapter 6 of the Guide for Atlassers provides details about the above data forms, and explains how to fill them out.
Each person registered as an atlasser will be sent an “Atlasser’s Kit” by post, which contains a copy of each of the data forms. You can obtain additional copies of the data forms from your regional coordinator, or by downloading the PDF files from the website.
Due to a lack of space, it was not possible to list all the bird species that breed in Québec on a single Breeding Evidence Form or Point Count Form. Therefore, four slightly different versions of each of these forms have been developed, each listing the species found in a given biological zone (i.e., “Southwest Québec”, “Québec maritime region”, “Québec boreal region” and “Northern Québec”). Although there is often a considerable overlap in the list of species for these different zones, you must always use the version of the forms that was developed for the zone in which your atlas region, and therefore survey square, is situated. Please see Chapter 6 of the Guide for Atlassers for further details.
If you wish to download PDF versions of the forms, simply click on the respective links below. Once downloaded, you can consult the forms directly on your computer or print them. As the data forms are in PDF format, you will need Adobe Acrobat to do this. If need be, you can download Adobe Reader free of charge from the link at the bottom of the page.
Please note that the Breeding Evidence Form should be printed on 8.5 in. x 14 in. (landscape), and the other forms on 8.5 in. x 11 in. (portrait).
